Welcoming our Apprentice Natasha

Welcoming our Apprentice Natasha

We wanted to introduce you to our latest member of the team Natasha Vaughan. Natasha has joined us a Tax Assistant Apprentice and will be completing her apprenticeship us.

We started off asking Natasha why she chose an apprenticeship over going to University?

"I chose an apprenticeship over university because I wanted to get work experience as well as a qualification. I feel that at university you don't tend to experience a working environment as much, and I didn't want studying for more exams to be the only thing I was doing since having just finished A-levels. I wanted to get out there and develop skills by actually doing the job instead of learning about it.

Out of this experience, I'm hoping to learn more about taxes and accounting through the job and the college course. I'm looking forward to progressing my career in that area and possibly becoming an accountant in the future if I find that it is something I enjoy. I'm also hoping to better my communication skills with customers and general skills within IT and calculating taxes."

What’s your role at G2?

"Tax Assistant Apprentice. When I've completed my training I will be assisting in reviewing company accounts and preparing information for R&D tax relief claims."

What were you doing before you came to G2?

"I was studying A-levels (Maths, Physics and Chemistry) at South Nottinghamshire Academy."

What training have you had?

"Through my apprenticeship I will be attending a college to study the AAT level 2&3 course to train more for my role."

What podcast, magazine, website or Tv show you hooked on at the moment?

"Friends."

If you were a super hero what powers would you choose?

"To be able to fly so then I could go anywhere in the world whenever I wanted."

What do you love about your job?

I find the company very varied and interesting and enjoy learning about clients new ideas and innovations.

We're really pleased to have Natasha on our team and are sure she will have an exciting successful career.

What’s your role at G2?

I’m the new industrial designer, so I work with Ed designing and prototyping things.

Which band/artist can you not stop listening to at the moment?

Its not exactly music, but I’m obsessed with the “Welcome to Night Vale” podcast. Its so insanely imaginative and weird, I’ve listened to all 70+ episodes at least 3 times over.

What is your favourite film, and why?

The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Extended editions. Enough said.

If you were a super-hero, what powers would you choose?

Invincibility, so I could do lots of things like jump into a giant waterfall and I wouldn't have to worry about dying.

Where would you most like to go on Holiday?

Somewhere in the Arctic Circle. I’d have to wear about 19 layers because I hate the cold, but I want to see the Aurora Borealis and play with huskys and go on a reindeer safari and go midnight skiing and do lots of things you can’t do in England.

What do you love about your job?

The variety of projects I get to do, the graphics tablet I get to use, the ping pong table and the team!

Who is your favourite Designer?

Ettore Sottsass is my favourite for starting the Memphis group and giving two fingers up to Modernism and mainstream European design. In my opinion, he should get as much recognition for how he changed design as Coco Chanel does for how she changed fashion. My favourite Memphis piece is the super lamp — life goals to have that as my bedside lamp!

Favourite sport? (To watch or play)

I like watching the olympics and I like windsurfing

How long have you been at G2?

A month and a half!

Tell us 3 random facts about you.

I don’t know my left and right.

I have crazy vivid dreams, and sometimes get them mixed up with real life which can get pretty confusing

I’m going travelling around the world next year!

Favourite literary quote

“If a picture’s not going well, put a dog in it.” Norman Rockwell

Get to know Ed

What’s your role at G2?

Doing all sorts of design related things like sketching, CAD work, CNC’ing prototypes and chatting through ideas with clients.

Which band/artist can you not stop listening to at the moment?

The whole album Psychic by Darkside, it has a weird mix of summery and moody music!

What is your favourite film, and why?

According to the others here at G2, I haven’t seen any films they would consider to be classics- so they have taken it upon themselves to educate me. One of them has become my favourite- Bladerunner. I like it for its mood, visual art and synthy soundtrack! I also love watching sports films for their cool cinematography- the Art of Flight being one of them- great inspiration for GoPro filming!

If you were a super-hero, what powers would you choose?

Suits of armour which can be summoned at any point, genius level intelligence- and a seamless link with tech. Sound familiar?

Where would you most like to go on Holiday?

I really like seeing and walking/cycling/sailing through really dramatic landscapes. Going to the Isle of Skye this year was great, and part of a build up to one day to go to Patagonia!

What’s the last TV series you watched?

I haven’t finished it yet, but I am close- Breaking bad. One of these days I will finish it!

What do you love about your job?

The variety of work, because there is never a typical day at G2. Developing our own and other people’s ideas into tangible things is really rewarding!

It’s difficult to select just one product designer, but for inspiration and cool concepts I’m a big fan of Daniel Simon.

What’s your role at G2?

I'm one of the co-founders and manage the UK business, I get involved in all aspects of what we do.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I think I’d go mad only being able to eat one thing! I love trying new things and really like a variety of food so it’s really tough… It’s a toss up between jerk chicken, rice and peas, a classic chicken caeser salad or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.  I think the jerk chicken might have to take it.

Which band/artist can you not stop listening to at the moment?

I listen to a load of random stuff and my iTunes library has everything from Beck to Brahms.  I’ve been listening to Ria Ritche a lot recently and also never go long without putting on a Sparklehorse album.

If you were a super-hero, what powers would you choose?

Definitely flight.  Superman style, so fast as well.  I’d love to be able to get anywhere on the planet really quickly and superfast flight would be a massive adrenaline rush!

Who would you want to play you in a movie about your life?

It would have to be Chuck Norris and in martial arts style just for the comedy value.

Where would you most like to go on Holiday?

I hate sun bathing, and get really itchy feet.  So either a city break or somewhere with loads to do.  At the moment I really fancy doing a cycling holiday, either in the Alps or the Italian lakes.

What’s the last TV series you watched?

Sons of Anarchy – I was really hooked.  I never really used to watch series, as I’d never manage to watch all the episodes, so having Netflix now is perfect and I like to binge watch several episodes in one go.

What do you love about your job?

I don’t really think of it as a job as I love it so much.  The variety is certainly high up on the list, as we work with all kinds of companies on all kinds of projects.  I also enjoy being in the office.  We’ve got a great team and a really positive buzz.

I love cycling of any kind, but especially on my new road bike!

How long have you been at G2?

Since the start! We set up in October 2009.

Cycling on my road bike after being up for hours with the kids.
